The Blitz is the name given to the German bombing of Englands major cities. The Germans began this attack when they discovered that they weren't winning the Battle of Britain. Air raid sirens sounded throughout the cities when Germans were coming to bomb. People spent most nights sleeping in Air Raid Shelters. There were two types of shelters, Anderson Shelters (picture) and Morrison Shelters.
Children were evacuated from the cities into the countryside were there was less chance of them being bombed.
